Privacy and deleting your account
Updated
This is a plain summary. The privacy policy is the full version.
Without an account
You can browse and search jobs without signing up. Your profile, pipeline, match scores, drafts and saved answers need an account: that is where they are kept, so every device you sign in on shows the same. Without an account, CareerAgent keeps only display settings, such as the theme, in your browser.
With an account
Your account stores:
- your email address and how you sign in;
- your profile: contact details, work history, education, links, work authorization, job-search details such as notice period and expected CTC, the optional equal-opportunity answers, your search defaults and the jobs you pin to For you;
- a matching summary of it (headline, skills, target roles, locations, excluded words, minimum match score, alert settings) that new jobs are scored against;
- your pipeline: each job's company, title, link, stage, dates, notes and contacts (Your pipeline);
- your match scores, with the reasons;
- the drafts you generate (the latest 24) and the answers you save for application forms;
- resume PDFs and documents, only if you upload or save them (Resumes and documents);
- your usage records.
What you write is encrypted. Your profile, notes, drafts and saved answers are encrypted on our servers. A pipeline entry's stage and dates are not, so the service can sort and count them.
The browser extension still keeps its own copy of your profile and pipeline on your computer until a later version uses your account instead.
AI features
Match scores, drafts, AI answers and reading your resume run on Google's Gemini API, in the United States. During the beta, AI features run on Google's Gemini API free tier. Under Google's terms for that tier, Google may use the content sent to improve its products, and human reviewers may read it. What is sent is what each feature needs: your profile, your resume's text, the job posting, and a form's field labels for autofill. Don't put information in your profile or resume that you wouldn't want processed this way. We'll update this notice when we move to the paid tier.
- Your expected CTC is used in match scoring, compared with a posting's stated pay; your current CTC is not. Cover letters, cold emails and tailored resumes never include your pay; the browser extension's answer drafts can use both, so an answer to "What is your expected CTC?" can fill it in.
- Equal-opportunity answers and consent questions are never sent to the AI.
- We keep a record that an AI request happened, for fair-use limits, but not what you sent. What the AI returns is kept only where it is part of your account: your match scores and your drafts.
What we never do
We never sell your data, never show ads, and never apply to jobs for you.
Deleting your account
- Sign in and open Account.
- At the bottom, choose Delete account.
- Type
DELETEto confirm.
Deletion cannot be undone. Your access ends immediately. It:
- signs you out everywhere and disconnects the extension, Telegram and any self-hosted install;
- frees your email address, so it can open a brand-new account.
We erase the data within 90 days: your account, email and sign-in; your profile, pipeline, match scores, drafts, saved answers, AI usage history; and every resume and document stored in your account. Until then it is kept only for fraud checks, and never used otherwise.
To keep a copy, use Download your data in Settings first.
We keep only invoices after that, because tax law requires it, and they are no longer linked to you.
Clearing data on your devices
Your browser holds none of your account's data. The extension keeps its own copy until you clear it there, or remove the extension from Chrome. Clear this browser in Settings removes cached job pages and anything this browser kept from before your account held it.
Getting a copy of your data, or a correction
