The browser extension: install, autofill and what it never does

Updated

The CareerAgent extension fills job application forms from your profile, saves jobs you find elsewhere, and keeps your profile and pipeline in step with this website. It is free.

Installing it

The extension works in Google Chrome. Install it from the Chrome Web Store; Settings has an install button too.

Connecting it to your account

Connecting is optional: autofill and saving jobs work without it. It adds the AI help described below.

  1. In the extension, press Sign in. It opens careeragent.fyi/extension/connect.
  2. Sign in to CareerAgent if you are not already. The page connects the extension to your account and says so.

To see where it stands, open Settings › Browser extension. The status reads Not installed, Not connected or Connected to CareerAgent. Check connection (or Sync now once it is found) syncs your profile and pipeline with the extension, and Connect extension opens the same connect page.

Filling application forms

Open a job application and the extension fills what it can from your profile: name, email, phone, location, LinkedIn, GitHub and portfolio links, current and expected CTC, notice period, experience, and work authorisation. It also attaches the PDF resume you marked for uploads, and reuses answers you gave to the same questions on earlier applications.

  • Filled automatically on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workday application pages.
  • On other career sites, including many Indian employers' sites, open the extension and press fill, or use the shortcut Alt+Shift+F.

Always read the form before you submit. Fields matched with AI help are marked for you to check.

A few things it deliberately leaves to you:

  • Work authorisation and sponsorship questions stay empty until you set your status yourself.
  • Consent boxes are never ticked for you.
  • Equal-opportunity questions (gender, disability and similar) are only answered with the choice you saved yourself, never guessed.

What it never does

  • It never submits an application. It never presses Submit or Apply. You review the form and you submit it.
  • It never signs in for you. It skips password fields and never logs in to LinkedIn, Naukri or any employer site.
  • It never browses on your behalf. Nothing is clicked, scrolled, paged or fetched in the background on job sites, and it does not automate your logged-in sessions.

Saving jobs from LinkedIn and Naukri

On a LinkedIn or Naukri job page, the extension adds a Save to CareerAgent button. It saves the job to your pipeline as Saved. On other job pages, such as Indeed, open the extension and use Save to pipeline when it recognises a job.

When an employer's site confirms that your application went through, the extension adds the job to your pipeline as Applied, with a follow-up reminder. You can turn this off in the extension's settings.

AI help in forms

Once the extension is connected to your account (see above), it can ask the AI which profile field an unusual question wants, and draft an answer to an open question for you to edit. Only the form's question labels and options are sent to work out which field is which, never your profile values. The usual fields never need the AI; it is only asked for an unusual field or an open question. Without a connection, autofill still works from your profile, without AI.

What it stores

Your profile, pipeline and saved answers are kept in your CareerAgent account, so every device shows the same. This version of the extension still keeps its own copy on your computer, with your resumes: jobs you save with it go into your account the next time you open CareerAgent in the same browser, and the answers it saved are copied into your account the first time you sign in there. A later version will read your account directly. An optional setting to share anonymous statistics with the community index is off unless you turn it on.
