Install CareerAgent on your phone and get match alerts

Updated

CareerAgent is a web app you can add to your phone's home screen. It then opens full screen, like any other app, and can send you a notification when it finds new postings that match your profile. There is nothing to download from an app store.

Install on Android (Chrome)

  1. Open careeragent.fyi in Chrome.
  2. Tap Add CareerAgent to your home screen under the Jobs feed, or in Settings under Notifications. If you don't see the button, open Chrome's ⋮ menu and tap Install app (on some phones it says Add to Home screen).
  3. Confirm. CareerAgent appears on your home screen and in your app drawer.

Install on iPhone or iPad (Safari)

  1. Open careeragent.fyi in Safari.
  2. Tap Share (the square with an arrow), then Add to Home Screen, then Add.
  3. Open CareerAgent from the new home screen icon and sign in again. iOS keeps the home screen app separate from Safari, so you are not signed in there yet.

On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work in the home screen app, on iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later. In a Safari tab the switch doesn't appear at all.

Share a job from LinkedIn or Naukri

Once CareerAgent is installed on an Android phone, it shows up in the share sheet of other apps.

  1. In the LinkedIn or Naukri app (or in Chrome), open a job and tap Share.
  2. Pick CareerAgent from the list of apps.
  3. If CareerAgent already has that posting, its job page opens. Otherwise the job is added to your pipeline under Saved, with the title and company taken from what the app shared, and you see Saved to your pipeline.

Saving to your pipeline needs you to be signed in, because your pipeline is kept in your account; a posting CareerAgent already has opens either way. On a job page, Answers for this application keeps your name, contact details, CTC, notice period and work authorization one tap away, so you can copy them into the employer's form. Fill them in on your profile first. Signed in, Ask AI below them drafts an answer to a question the form asks in its own words, like "Why do you want to work here?", which you can edit and copy. When you come back from the employer's site, CareerAgent asks once whether you applied, and Yes moves the job to Applied.

Sharing to CareerAgent only works in the installed app on Android, in Chrome or another browser that supports it. iPhone and iPad don't let web apps appear in the share sheet. There, copy the job's link and add it from your pipeline with Add job.

Turn on match alerts

  1. Sign in, then open Settings.
  2. Under Notifications, turn on New match alerts on this device.
  3. When your browser asks, tap Allow.

Each phone or browser is switched on separately, and you can have alerts on in up to 10 of them. Tapping an alert opens For you.

Who gets alerts, and when

Alerts come from background matching. Notification settings are coming soon in the beta.

Every few hours, CareerAgent scores new postings against your profile: your target roles, skills, locations and exclusions. If a run finds postings at or above your Minimum score for match alerts (70 unless you change it in your profile), you get one notification listing them, best first. A run that finds nothing new above your minimum score sends nothing, so quiet days are normal. The more complete your profile, especially your target roles, the better the matches.

Telegram alerts and the email digest

Two more ways to hear about new matches, both coming soon and both off until you turn them on. They list the same matches as the notifications, at or above your minimum score.

Telegram alerts

  1. Open Settings › Notifications and press Connect next to Telegram alerts. It opens the CareerAgent bot in Telegram.
  2. Tap Start in Telegram. Back in Settings, the row changes to Connected on its own.

After each match run that finds something new, the bot sends you a message with your new matches. To stop them, press Disconnect in Settings any time, or send /stop to the bot.

Email digest

In Settings › Notifications, set Email digest to Off, Weekly (on Mondays) or Daily. It is off by default. The digest goes to your account's email address, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link that turns it off without signing in.

Turn alerts off

  • On one device: open Settings on that device and turn off New match alerts on this device.
  • From your phone's settings: block notifications for CareerAgent in Android's app settings, or in iOS Settings › Notifications › CareerAgent. Turn them back on there before you use the switch again.
  • Everywhere at once: turn the switch off on each device, or delete your account (see Privacy and deleting your account), which removes every subscription.

To remove the app itself, delete it from your home screen the way you would any other app.
